The NZ 1:1k Tile Index dataset provides a 1:1,000 scale index for aerial imagery and LiDAR datasets. Along with the 1:5k and 1:10k datasets, this
1:1k tile index is part of a collection of indexes which are referenced to the NZ 1:50k Tile Index dataset.
Like the NZ 1:50k Tile Index, these larger scale indexes support mapping of NZ mainland and coastal areas up to 50m in depth.

The dataset includes the following attributes:

index_tile_id : Unique identifier for the NZ 1:1k tile index table.
sheet_code_id : The corresponding sheet code of the NZ 1:50k Tile Index.
scale : The map scale of the index tiles.
tile : The combination of the row and column numbers of the index tiles.

The NZ 50k Tile Index dataset provides a 1:50,000 scale base index for larger scale indexes used for aerial imagery and LiDAR datasets. This index is different from Topo50 Map Sheets in that there are no overlapping index polygons in this dataset. This index also expands further into the sea to support future mapping in coastal areas and encompasses all offshore locations up to 50m in depth. The dataset includes a map sheet code consistent with those from Topo50 Map Sheets, and an attribute for each tile to show whether there is a corresponding Topo50 map sheet with matching location coverage.

This dataset provides river name lines for mainland New Zealand. It is part of a pilot to understand the benefit of combining river names and location, and making these openly available through the LINZ Data Service.

Unnamed rivers are also included in this dataset.

How this data can be used

Together with the NZ River Name Polygons (Pilot) dataset, these are the first openly available datasets with NZ river names attributed to geometry features (lines and polygons). This data can be used for searching for a named river and zooming to its extents, extracting geometries of a named river, creating digital cartographic products displaying river names, and analysing other features against named rivers (e.g. identifying buildings or properties within a specified distance of a particular river).

Data vintage

The river names and extents in this dataset are based on the cartographic text shown on NZ Topo50 maps as of December 2018, and are an approximation and should not be taken as official. Further details are included in the 'Naming Extents Methodology' section in the 'Lineage' of this metadata.

This dataset provides river name polygons for mainland New Zealand. It is part of a pilot to understand the benefit of combining river names and location, and making these openly available through the LINZ Data Service.

A structure on top of a hill, usually coloured black and white, used as a physical reference point by surveyors to determine location. The symbol shown on the map includes the elevation and trig identification code for beaconed trig stations.

Data Dictionary for trig_pnt: The NZ Topographic Data Dictionary is yet to be updated for trig points.

These topographic trig points are derived from New Zealand geodetic marks data which can also be accessed through the LINZ Data Service: NZ Geodetic Marks and NZ Geodetic Vertical Marks.

This layer is a component of the Topo50 map series. The Topo50 map series provides topographic mapping for the New Zealand mainland, Chatham and New Zealand's offshore islands, at 1:50,000 scale.

This dataset provides building outlines within mainland New Zealand extracted from multiple years of aerial imagery, allowing you to see change over time, or restrict the dataset to building outlines that match a specific aerial imagery source.

A building outline is a 2D representation of the roof outline of a building which has been classified from LINZ aerial imagery using a combination of automated and manual processes to extract and refine a building roof outline.

Building roof outlines observed in aerial imagery larger than or equal to 10 square meters are captured in this dataset, and may include structures such as garages and large sheds.

Data vintage

This dataset contains all building outlines which have been extracted from multiple years of aerial imagery available in each region of the country, including the most recent imagery. This dataset includes the dates for which each building existed in the aerial imagery.

Coverage areas include Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wellington, Taranaki, Tasman, West Coast, Marlborough, Canterbury, Southland and Otago. This dataset will be updated and expanded as new aerial imagery becomes available.

This table provides the relationships between building outlines within mainland New Zealand when buildings are split or merged.

A building outline is a 2D representation of the roof outline of a building which has been classified from LINZ aerial imagery using a combination of automated and manual processes to extract and refine a building roof outline.

Data vintage

This dataset does not include building outline geometry, but provides the linkages between building_id's from different aerial imagery sources in the NZ Building Outlines (All Sources) dataset when building outlines change from single outlines split into multiple outlines, and from multiple outlines merged as single outlines.

This dataset will be updated with changes in building_id relationships as new aerial imagery becomes available.

This dataset provides current outlines of buildings within mainland New Zealand captured from the latest aerial imagery.

A building outline is a 2D representation of the roof outline of a building which has been classified from LINZ aerial imagery using a combination of automated and manual processes to extract and refine a building roof outline.

Building outlines observed in aerial imagery larger than or equal to 10 square meters are captured in this dataset, and may include structures such as garages and large sheds.

Data vintage

This dataset shows the most recent set of building outlines extracted from the LINZ aerial imagery available on the LINZ Data Service.

Current coverage includes areas in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Gisborne, Bay of Plenty, Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wellington, Tasman, Taranaki, West Coast, Marlborough, Canterbury, Southland, and Otago. This dataset will be updated and expanded as new aerial imagery becomes available.

Since aerial imagery is flown only every few years in each region of the country, building outlines only reflect those buildings observed at the date of this aerial imagery capture, and may not reflect buildings constructed after this time period.
