A tidal stream (or tidal current) is a horizontal movement of water associated with the rise and fall of the tide caused by tide-producing forces. Approximate tidal stream rates may be given as discrete rate values for flood and ebb flow during springs.

The hydrographic data available through the LINZ Data Service is based on official Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) published by the New Zealand Hydrographic Authority.
Prior to loading onto this service, the S-57 data from these ENCs is converted to shapefile format.
