This index enables you to identify the third party bathymetric data held and used by LINZ on its NZ coastal nautical charts. Some of our data holdings date back to the 1950s. The polygons comprising the index show the extent of the survey datasets. The attributes attached to each polygon will enable you to view, amongst other attributes, the age and quality of the bathymetric data.

Please refer to the LINZ Bathymetric Index Data Dictionary for further information about the attributes of this dataset.

The bathymetric data is not downloadable from the LINZ Data Service. Datasets prior to the year 2000 are predominantly available only as georeferenced TIFF images of the original hard copy sounding sheets. Data post-2000 is often available as both georeferenced TIFF images and as digital data files (vector data in plain text format).

The provision of third party funded bathymetric data may be subject to some delay as LINZ confirms with the data owner that they are happy for their data to be released. The owner may attach conditions to the release of their data.

LINZ also holds publically funded New Zealand bathymetric data, which can be readily released under a Creative Commons licence for reuse. View our "NZ Bathymetric Data Index" dataset to request this data.

Please read: This is the table for Road Section Geometry, which is part of the set of NZ Roads tables provided as a Beta version. The Road Section Geometry table stores the linear geometry for the associated road section, or part of the associated road section.

The NZ Roads dataset includes eight data tables and eleven lookup tables. The dataset has been sourced from LINZ’s NZ Roads database, a database for the management of national roads, including those managed for addressing purposes. This set of normalised tables replaces the Landonline: Road Centre Line layer and the Landonline: Road Name and Landonline: Road Name Association tables currently published on LDS.

This Beta version provides a snap shot in time of all roads held by LINZ for addressing / electoral purposes as at 15 November 2015. These centrelines are required to indicate the presence of an authoritative road name. Named centrelines are not intended to represent the exact location of a road formation. Named centrelines do not indicate the presence of legal access.

The data will not be updated until we go-live with the new system.

The release date for the new datasets has been pushed out to incorporate further improvement. We will provide updates on timing once it is confirmed. The existing road and address datasets will be available for 6 months after go-live to allow users further time to transition.

For a simplified version of the data contained within these tables see NZ Roads (Addressing) (Beta), which aggregates geometries based on road name, and NZ Roads Subsections (Addressing) (Beta), which holds the individual geometries.

Please refer to the NZ Roads Data Dictionary (Beta) for detailed metadata and information about this layer.

Please read: This layer provides linear geometries against which official road names and street addresses can be recorded. Its purpose is also to enable automated meshblock address reports (for electoral and statistical purposes) so as to identify the presence of a road name in meshblocks where street addresses do not exist. A linear geometry in this layer will typically consist of several road section geometries have been associated to the same road name.

For this layer (as opposed to the NZ Roads Subsections (Addressing) layer, individual road section geometries have been aggregated to a single road centreline geometry where those subsections share the same name, and are generally contiguous. Because some roads have multiple names for part of their lengths, some road centreline geometries will duplicate parts of other roads even though there is in reality only one road formation.

The road centrelines recorded in Landonline do not represent actual road formation, nor do they represent legal access. They must not be considered as topographic, cadastral, or legal.

This dataset contains the core attributes of a road to support simple searching, calculate lengths or provide a road name context for cadastral data views. This dataset is a replacement for the NZ Road Centre Line (Electoral) dataset.

This layer has been simplified from LINZ’s NZ Roads dataset, a centralised database for the management of national road data, currently provided as a Beta version. The comprehensive set of NZ Roads tables is also available.

The data will not be updated until we go-live with the new system.

The release date for the new datasets has been pushed out to incorporate further improvement. We will provide updates on timing once it is confirmed. The existing road and address datasets will be available for 6 months after go-live to allow users further time to transition.

A linear geometry in this layer will consist of the individual road section geometries (as opposed to the NZ Roads (Addressing) layer where these have been aggregated).

Because some road sections have multiple names, the non-primary road names are held in additional columns against each road section.

Please read: This is a Beta version of the simplified spatial address dataset primarily designed for use as a contextual layer or for simple applications. The data in this Beta version will not be updated. It provides a snapshot in time as at 15 November 2015.

This Beta version has been published to allow users time to transition from the current NZ Street Address (Electoral) dataset to the new structure of NZ Street Address.

The release date for the new datasets has been pushed out to incorporate further improvement. We will provide updates on timing once it is confirmed. The existing address and road datasets will be available for 6 months after AIMS go-live to allow users further time to transition.

This dataset provides all allocated addresses as advised to LINZ by Territorial Authorities (TAs). This dataset contains the core components of an address to support simple searching or use of this layer to provide context and is a replacement for the NZ Street Address (Electoral) dataset. This dataset has been sourced from LINZ’s Address Information Management System (AIMS), a centralised database for the management of national addresses, including for electoral purposes.

Please refer to the Street Address Data Dictionary (Beta) for detailed metadata and information about this layer.

Please read: The AIMS: Address Position table is part of the set of comprehensive AIMS Address tables in Beta release.

The Address Position table contains the point location of an address. An address can have multiple point positions. The Addresspositiontype describes the position E.g. centroid, set back from road. In the first instance the Landonline address position will be used the positioning of this is 'unknown'. Additional Address Position data may be captured over time.

The comprehensive address dataset includes eight data tables and nine lookup tables. The dataset has been sourced from LINZ’s Address Information Management System (AIMS), a centralised database for the management of national addresses, including for electoral purposes. This set of normalised tables replaces the single Landonline: Street Address layer currently published on LDS.

For further information about this dataset, see the Canterbury earthquake information.

Coordinates computed from surveys undertaken after the 14 February 2016 Canterbury earthquake. These coordinates should be consistent with any observations made after this earthquake (neglecting any localised deformation such as that due to liquefaction).

These coordinates are only provisional. Analysis is ongoing as further data is collected. Coordinates were calculated using SNAP v2.5.33. Stations were constrained using coordinates of distant PositioNZ continuous GNSS stations that were unaffected by the earthquake.

The standard deviations of coordinates are 0.01m horizontally and 0.02m vertically, relative to the PositioNZ network.

Coordinate changes due to the earthquake have been calculated by comparing pre and post-earthquake coordinates. Pre-earthquake coordinates were calculated relative to public and private continuous GNSS stations. These continuous GNSS stations had data processed for several days early in 2016 (before the earthquake). Other pre-earthquake geodetic data was then readjusted with the continuous GNSS data. Note that this means these coordinate changes may differ slightly from those that would be calculated by comparing the post-earthquake coordinates with those currently in the Geodetic Database.

These coordinates are suitable for use in surveys and other geospatial activities in Canterbury and Christchurch.

This layer includes all Crown Land and Properties managed by LINZ which have been identified spatially and can include properties managed by LINZ on behalf of other agencies. The attributes in this dataset are derived from the National Property and Land Information System (NaPALIS), which is a centralised database for all Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and Department of Conservation (DOC) administered land.

The boundaries of many properties are linked to the applicable Landonline Primary Parcel(s), but in some cases the boundaries may have been drawn in as unsurveyed parcels to varying degrees of accuracy. As such please note that the boundaries are indicative only. The layer excludes any LINZ managed properties which do not have an identified location or extent.

More information on Crown Property can be found under the Crown Property section on the LINZ Website (www.linz.govt.nz/crown-property)
A subset of Crown Property can be found in the South Island Pastoral Leases layer (data.linz.govt.nz/layer/1572-south-island-pastoral...).

This provides a polygon coastline and islands layer which is based on the Topo50 products. It is a combination of the following layers:

Islands from the NZ Island Polygons layer that lie within the NZ Coastline and Chatham Islands areas (i.e. islands in lakes, rivers and estuaries) have been removed.

The GIS workflow to create the layer is:

  1. NZ Coastlines were converted from a polyline to a polygon using a polyline to polygon tool.
  2. The resulting coastal polygon was then used as an input into an erase tool and run against the NZ Island Polygon layer to remove all islands lying within the NZ Mainland and Stewart Island.
  3. This was then merged with the NZ Chatham Is island polygons (Topo, 1:50k) that have had the islands within the main island polygon removed, NZ Auckland Is Island Polygons (Topo, 1:50k), NZ Campbell Is / Motu Ihupuku Island, NZ Antipodes Is Island Polygons (Topo, 1:25k), NZ Kermadec Is Island Polygons (Topo, 1:25k), NZ Bounty Is Island Polygons (Topo, 1:25k) and NZ Snares Is / Tini Heke Island Polygons (Topo, 1:25k) layers using a merge tool.
  4. Lake Onoke from the NZ Lake Polygons (Topo 1:50k) layer and Te Whanga Lagoon from the NZ Chatham Is lagoon polygons (Topo, 1:50k) layer were then erased from the resultant polygon layer to include these two water bodies in the coastline definition.

For more detailed description of each layer refer to the layer urls above.
