This dataset provides current outlines of buildings within mainland New Zealand captured from the latest aerial imagery.

A building outline is a 2D representation of the roof outline of a building which has been classified from LINZ aerial imagery using a combination of automated and manual processes to extract and refine a building roof outline.

Building outlines observed in aerial imagery larger than or equal to 10 square meters are captured in this dataset, and may include structures such as garages and large sheds.

Data vintage

This dataset shows the most recent set of building outlines extracted from the LINZ aerial imagery available on the LINZ Data Service.

Current coverage includes nearly all regions of New Zealand, except parts of rural Auckland, remote parts of Bay of Plenty, Tasman and the Southern Alps, as well as Fiordland, Stewart Island and the Chatham Islands. This dataset will be updated and expanded as new aerial imagery becomes available.

Since aerial imagery is flown only every few years in each region of the country, building outlines only reflect those buildings observed at the date of this aerial imagery capture, and may not reflect buildings constructed after this time period.

NZ Building Outlines (All Sources) - contains all combinations of building outlines from multiple years of imagery that have existed since the beginning of this dataset, and the dates when each building outline existed in the associated aerial imagery.

NZ Building Outlines Lifecycle - is related to the dataset above and stores the relationship between building outlines when one building is split into two or more building outlines, or when multiple building outlines are merged into a single outline.

This dataset provides an index to the New Zealand Raster Charts available through the LINZ Data Service showing extent and Paper Chart attributes.

THIS DATA DOES NOT REPLACE NAUTICAL CHARTS AND MUST NOT BE USED FOR NAVIGATION.

The hydrographic raster data made available through the LINZ Data Service is based on the Paper Nautical Charts published and maintained by the New Zealand Hydrographic Authority at Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ).

The NZ Paper Nautical Chart Index contains details of six international charts which are adopted by LINZ. Due to copyright reasons LINZ is not authorised to make the chart images available for download on LDS. These charts can be purchased from chart retailers.

This dataset provides an index to the Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) available through the LINZ Data Service showing extent and ENC attributes.

The ENC index is compiled from the S-57 Object Class “Nautical publication information” which is used to relate additional nautical information or publications to the data. The attributes are populated by Land Information New Zealand’s (LINZ) production database.

S-57 is a standard used to exchange digital hydrographic data between hydrographic offices and to distribute this data to users.
This dataset was compiled for the use in the scale ranges 1:1,000 to 1:1,500,000 and smaller.

THIS DATA DOES NOT REPLACE NAUTICAL CHARTS AND MUST NOT BE USED FOR NAVIGATION.

This layer identifies critical survey marks which Toitū Te Whenua (Land Information New Zealand) requires to be physically protected.

Thousands of vital survey marks exist in New Zealand. This layer identifies critical survey marks that should not be disturbed or destroyed.
Like utilities such as cables and pipes, survey marks are valuable assets, predominately in the road reserve, with many survey marks set below or at ground level and therefore not highly visible or apparent. They often remain unnoticed until roads or footpaths have been excavated and the survey marks disturbed or destroyed.
Publication of the NZ Protected Survey Marks dataset enables the potential for disturbance or destruction of these valuable survey marks to be assessed, and if needed, the marks protected prior to the commencement of any excavation work.

People involved in construction, from design to the works itself, are responsible for ensuring that survey marks are not disturbed or destroyed. When works have the potential to disturb or destroy existing cadastral and geodetic marks, Toitū Te Whenua needs to be notified so that it can assess whether the marks should be reinstated or replaced. Find out more about looking after the national survey network, and how to contact the Toitū Te Whenua Survey Protection Advisory Service.

Please note there may be other important survey marks not identified on this layer, and that Toitū Te Whenua recommends consultation with a Licensed Cadastral surveyor before any construction or earthworks begin.

This layer contains the DSM for Northland captured between December 2018 and February 2020

LiDAR was captured for Northland Region by RPS between December 2018 and February 2020. These datasets were generated by RPS and their subcontractors. Data management and distribution is by Land Information New Zealand.

Data comprises:

  • DEM: tif or asc tiles in NZTM2000 projection, tiled into a 1:1,000 tile layout

  • DSM: tif or asc tiles in NZTM2000 projection, tiled into a 1:1,000 tile layout

  • Point cloud: las tiles in NZTM2000 projection, tiled into a 1:1,000 tile layout

Pulse density specification is at a minimum of 3 pulses/square metre.
