South Island Charts
The hydrographic raster data available through the LINZ Data Service is based on official Paper Charts published by the New Zealand Hydrographic Authority. It should be noted that due to the translation process, some information from the charts is omitted and positions may not be accurate.
This data: does not replace official Navigational Charts; should not be used for navigation; are not corrected for Notices to Mariners. For navigation, mariners should use official New Zealand Charts as available from chart retailers.
This dataset is a collection of individual hydrographic charts for New Zealand's South Island region, and has been designed to provide a quick way to group, view and/or download charts within this region.
Note: This set contains charts at a variety of scales. Use of LDS web map tile services for this set is not recommended as the scaled charts overlap.
All charts are available for individual download through the LINZ Data Service, and will be updated as new data becomes available.
These charts are based on the official Raster Navigational Chart series produced by the New Zealand Hydrographic Authority, available on the [LINZ website](https://www.linz.govt.nz/sea/charts/nzmariner-official-raster-navigational-charts-rncs).
THIS DATA DOES NOT REPLACE NAUTICAL CHARTS AND MUST NOT BE USED FOR NAVIGATION.

Prior to loading onto this service, high resolution raster chart images are cropped to the geographic extent of the chart panel(s) and georeferenced. A number of different scales are represented.
